Candida albicans is the primary cause of vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC), Gardnerella vaginalis is linked to bacterial vaginosis (BV), and Trichomonas vaginalis is a parasite responsible for trichomoniasis, a prevalent non-viral sexually transmitted infection. These infections can cause vaginal discomfort, abnormal discharge, and increased susceptibility to other infections, including HIV.
With advancements in molecular diagnostic techniques, more effective methods for detecting CA, GV, and TV have been developed. Nucleic Acid Amplification Tests (NAATs), including real-time PCR, are recommended due to their high sensitivity and specificity in pathogen detection.
