| Building a workplace culture focused on real use of flexible working hours, childcare support, and employee-friendly policies |
SML Genetree (CEO Lee Dong-soo) announced on the 3rd that it has been simultaneously selected as one of Korea’s 2025 Excellent Work-Life Balance Companies, a certification program led by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and other government bodies, and as a Family-Friendly Certified Company, a certification program organized by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.
The company stated that the dual recognition reflects official acknowledgment of its management philosophy that employees can better focus on their work when they are able to maintain a healthy balance between work, family, and personal life.
SML Genetree has implemented a range of workplace policies that reflect the preferences of employees in their 20s and 30s, who account for approximately 70% of its workforce. These include a culture that encourages the free use of annual leave, half-day and quarter-day leave systems, a prior approval system for overtime work, and a flexible commuting system that allows employees to choose their start time between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m.
The flexible commuting system is actively used by many employees, while the company’s annual leave usage rate stands at approximately 99%, demonstrating the practical effectiveness of these policies.
As part of its family-friendly programs, SML Genetree provides family care leave, reduced working hours during childcare periods, paternity leave, and fertility treatment leave, helping employees reduce the burden of family care and childcare. In addition, except in urgent business situations, leaving work on time and respecting working hours have become established parts of the company’s workplace culture.
“Even the best policies are meaningless if they are not actually used,” said Lee Dong-soo, CEO of SML Genetree. “To put happiness into practice, we will continue working to build a sustainable corporate culture where employees’ lives and growth can remain in harmony.”
